Marin celebrates Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)
Sunday, October 30th, 2011 at 11:52am. 555 Views, 0 Comments.
An age old festival, particularly celebrated in Mexico, Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebrates and honors loved ones that have died. Traditionally taking place on November 1 (All Saints Day) and November 2 (All Soul's Day), the celebrations are lively and festive. The rituals consist of friends and family gathering to build private alters where they prey, adorn with sugar skulls, marigolds, mementos, food and beverages. Then continue to the graves honoring those that have passed before them.
Marin offers two great places to participate in this celebration of life.

San Francisco Neighborhoods - Cow Hollow + Marina District Part 3: The Blue Angels
Fleet week, which starts on Wednesday and culminates with the exit of the Navy ships on the following Tuesday, reminded me of just another benefit to living in The Cow Hollow & Marina districts or in San Francisco Real Estate terms, District 7.
Fleet week brings back memories from my high school days bussing tables at a popular tourist restaurant on Fisherman's Wharf. That experience soured Fleet week for me because it meant the streets and restaurants on the wharf were literally filled with drunken sailors. A little much for a shy high school girl.
Living in Cow Hollow you cannot escape Fleet Week and…

If you are looking for something festive to do with your kids in these final few days until Halloween - maybe something a little bit spooky, sweet, something to elicit giggles and gasps - our family-friendly county of Marin is abundant with options. And it's nice that not only do they tend to be fun, but many are free to attend, including most of the ones listed below:
Farm-Hosted Pumpkin Patches
If you are up for a change in your pumpkin patch experience, and haven't been to one of the farm-hosted pumpkin patches, you should consider going to one. Your kids will be in for a treat, as they trade the bouncy house of parking lot-variety pumpkin patches for something different - a hay maze, hay ride, tractor ride and/or a giant haystack…

I am excited to announce that I was able to help another buyer client purchase their ideal home. This 4 bedroom 3 bath house is beautifully situated on the lush greens of Adobe Creek Golf Course in Petaluma. My clients found that by going just a few miles north of Novato in Marin, they could get everything they wanted for a nice price!
The home has a versatile layout. It acts like a single story home with the added bonus of extra bedrooms and a bath upstairs. The main level hosts the master bed and bath, another bedroom and full bath and a spacious open floor plan, complete with dining, living, family room and kitchen. A wonderful extra is the serene and lovely view of the Adobe Creek Golf Course.
I am finding that when my buyer clients open up their…
San Rafael Resident with a Lifetime of Stories

If you're looking for a guide to the West End and San Rafael or a personal history of the Great Depression and World War Two, or maybe a unique garden tour, a musical evening, just the right screw for that broken door hinge or perhaps just some fatherly advice, then all roads should lead you to Stan Kosta's home on a quiet cul-de-sac above the Miracle Mile.
Stan, who turned 93 last year, has lived in his two-bedroom house since he bought it for $10,000 in 1948, bargaining with the builder as its wooden frame was being erected on a hilltop above the Miracle Mile. It had a wonderful panorama of San Rafael and the bay to the East, and Mount Tam, San Anselmo and Bald Mountain - when it really was bald and not covered in greenery - to the…

Just Sold! 223 Sylvia Way, San Rafael

I'm pleased to announce another closed sale - I represented the buyer on the purchase of a 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath townhome in the Green Oaks community in Terra Linda. It was a very good value for the buyer at $322,000 for an end unit with lots of light and over 1500 square feet. The monthly homeowners association dues at Green Oaks is one of the lowest in Marin at $271 per month.
It was a pleasure to assist the buyer, a 96 year old woman....and proud of it, so that she could be three doors away from her daughter in the Green Oaks Community. The daughter, an "almost" original owner, loves the proximity to Scotty's Market, Open Space hiking trails and Kaiser. Amenities include a swimming pool, clubhouse and the highly regarded Dixie School…
