Now in its 23rd year, the Stapleton Ballet production features the story of Clara and her wild adventures with the Nutcracker. With new choreography and costumes, the stage will ignite with vibrance and excitement. Over 150 dancers from the Stapleton School of the Performing Arts will engage audience members young and old. It's sure to be an amazing way to spend the weekend.

Over fifty years later, Joseph Eichler's iconic mid-century modern homes are still as popular as ever and San Rafael (Terra Linda and Lucas Valley), is full of them. I have had the good fortune to live in one for the last eight years. I love the floor to ceiling windows, feasibility of one level living, indoor outdoor lifestyle and up until a year ago my fabulous radiant heat. Radiant heat, a classic element in Eichler's building style, is a marvelous heating system that allows hot water to flow through pipes imbedded in the concrete slab and then radiate out to create a most wonderful warm home. But what happens if the 50 year plus system fails? The copper pipe systems seem to repair well, however mine was not made with copper pipes and it needed…

Looking for something physical to do before you sit down to enjoy all of that Thanksgiving bounty? I saw recently in the local paper that there’s an organised mountain bike ride from Fairfax on Thanksgiving morning. They call it “The Appetite Seminar.” (Click to follow link.) It sounds like a great idea, to do the exercise before all that overeating and drinking. However, despite the good intentions, my bike and I will probably not be there. If, like me, you’d like to start with something simpler or less intimidating, then consider a Thanksgiving Day Family Hike. Did you know that you can walk to the Pacific Ocean from Mill Valley in only 1.7 miles? Just follow the trail through Tennessee Valley to the Tennessee Beach. It’s an easy drive…

October is often seen as the beginning of the slow period in real estate. Not so in Marin County. Single-family home sales were up in October 2011. There were 157 homes sold this year as compared to 152 in October of 2010 according to the Marin IJ. Prices of Marin single-family homes were also up October 2011 versus October 2010. The median price for single-family homes sold during this period rose from $740,000 to $749,000.
Condo sales also increased in October from 39 sold last year to 49 closed in 2011, which is a 25.6% increase. However, the median price for condos sold in October 2011 fell from $350,000 to $325,000 or a 7.14% decrease. This can be attributed to the number of distressed condos in Marin County.…

Pelican Inn, Muir Beach CA - Romantic Inn at The Beach What Is The Most Romantic Restaurant in Marin County?
Is there really one single solitary answer to this question? Romance for me might not mean the same thing for you or even my best friend but hopefully it's the same for my boyfriend or your significant other. Atmosphere, food, timing can all be part of a romantic experience but the individual and collective components are specific and unique to each person.
Romance and food together create a world of it's own with the magical combination of all the parts. When dining out the service and ambiance at a restaurant plays a huge part. Have you had that waitperson that stays a little too long,…

Earlier this week on a balmy fall evening, my husband and I walked the hills above San Rafael on our way to dinner on Fourth Street. The beauty of living in the West End Neighborhood is the proximity to downtown San Rafael and San Anselmo.
Our walk took us up Spring Grove where we took a trail that landed us on Upper Toyon in Kentfield and a beautiful sunset over Mt. Tam, then meandered down another trail to Gerstle Park and from there to downtown. We were hungry but not in the white table cloth dining sort of way. We were in the mood for something more casual, less expensive, where we could have a glass of wine, sit outside and enjoy the last of the warm evenings.
We ended up at Chaat Lotus and Spices at the West End of…
